OzHarvest Food Rescue Project
Mosman Council in partnership with OzHarvest are on a mission to reduce the amount of excess food being thrown away from local businesses to reduce waste costs and the amount of food waste that would otherwise go to landfill. A win – win for the community and the environment.
OzHarvest is a charitable organisation that collects quality, excess food from more than 2,000 commercial outlets and delivers it direct and free of charge, to more than 800 charities who provide much needed assistance to vulnerable men, women and children across Sydney.
Mosman Council and OzHarvest
Council in partnership with OzHarvest, SHOROC and EPA has a dedicated van to help Mosman businesses reduce their food waste and we are encouraging all of our local food businesses to get involved in this very worthwhile and socially responsible project.
How to get involved
If you are a business owner who is interested in donating your quality excess food to OzHarvest simply call Council’s Waste and Sustainability Education Officer on 9978 4024, or call OzHarvest on 1800 108 006 to arrange regular or ad hoc pick ups when you have food available.
Participating businesses will receive a shopfront window sticker to highlight their commitment to the project. This will give customers an opportunity to easily identify those businesses participating in this project and giving back to our community.
Businesses already participating
Please show your support to the following local organisations who are already donating their surplus food to feed those in need:
- Harris Farm
- Chargrill Charlie’s Mosman
- Ritchies IGA Spit Junction
- IGA Mosman
The Civil Liabilities Amendment (food donations) Act was passed in NSW in 2005. This ensured surplus food could be donated to charitable causes without fear of liability.
