Australian Library and Information Week at Barry O'Keefe Library

11 May 2018

Library and Information Week will be held 21-27 May 2018 with the theme ‘Find Yourself in a Library’. Library and Information Week aims to raise the profile of libraries and information service professionals in Australia.

Mosman Library Service has organised some events both in and outside the Barry O’Keefe Library to celebrate this special week for libraries.

The Library Service will be hosting a pop-up information stand in front of IGA at Bridgepoint Shopping centre between 10am-1pm Tuesday 22 May and 1pm-4pm on Wednesday 23 May. We will be featuring our eLibrary resources such as eBooks, eComics, eAudiobooks and eMagazines. We can create a free membership for everyone on the spot and answer any questions visitors might have about our services.

At the stand members will also be able to sign up to the Library’s NextReads e-newsletter and go in the draw to win a $50 book voucher from Oracle Bookshop. There will also be lists of some great reading suggestions and fun Library and Information Week giveaways.

For the young ones the Children’s Library is participating in National Simultaneous Storytime on Wednesday 23 May at 11am when participants in libraries, schools and childcare centres across Australia will sit down and read Hickory Dickory Dash written by Tony Wilson and illustrated by Laura Wood. This event is free and no bookings are required.

On Thursday 24 May at 4pm for school-aged children our regular Thursday Kids program will feature special Library and Information Week craft.

Finally there is a special book sale from Friday 25 May to Sunday 27 May in Barry O’Keefe Library during the regular opening hours. There will be lots of bargains in Fiction, Biography, Travel, Cooking, History, Craft and much more from only $2.00. As a special promotion for Australian Library and Information Week and to make the sale even more tempting when customers make a book purchase they will automatically go into the draw to win a special library-themed hamper full of surprises.
