Kate Leaver at the Library22 March 2018
Journalist Kate Leaver will be speaking at Barry O’Keefe Library next month about her book, The Friendship Cure.
In her entertaining book, which is a blend of science, pop culture and memoir, Kate describes friendship as being like water: people need it to survive, crave it when it’s scarce, and yet forget its value simply because it’s always available.
Kate contends that while the basic compulsion to make friends is in human DNA, people move through life in packs and friendship circles and yet are stuck in a loneliness epidemic which is killing people, making them miserable and causing a public health crisis.
Kate Leaver meets scientists, speaks to old friends, finds extraordinary stories and uncovers research to look at what friendship is, how it feels, where it can survive, why it’s needed and what can be done to get the most from it.
This event will take place on Wednesday 11 April from 7pm to 9pm. Pre-paid online bookings are essential, adults $10.00, pensioners/students $8.00 (passes must be shown). For all enquiries contact the Library on 9978 4091, or book online at events.mosman.nsw.gov.au.
