'Mosman Connects' Community Groups Forum26 February 2015
Preventing social isolation and building community connections will be the focus of a forum for community groups on Tuesday 10 March from 6-9pm at Mosman Art Gallery.
Isolation has been identified as a key concern by forum organisers Rotary Club of Mosman and Mosman Council and they are urging community group members, who provide vital social networks and support for residents, to come along.
Acclaimed social researcher and author Hugh Mackay will kick off the evening with his latest book The Art of Belonging which will give food for thought for further discussion.
Organisers Rotary president Mark Alderson and members, Di McKenzie and Jane Floyd, community groups member, Tina Jackson and Council’s Manager Community Services Niki Atmore say all community groups in Mosman should attend to develop ideas to help attract members and volunteers, promote their local organisations and network with other groups.
“Community groups are the backbone of Mosman and yet they often don’t have the opportunity to communicate or connect with each other,” organisers said. “We want to provide a forum for them to share their ideas and develop possible solutions to some of Mosman’s more challenging community issues”.
Organisers also hope the forum may lead to some innovative project proposals and applications to Council’s Community Grants Program 2015-16 which will open in mid-May.
Each group attending will receive a free copy of the The Art of Belonging. A light supper will be available from 6pm. Mosman Mayor Cr Peter Abelson will open the forum and is looking forward to greeting a wide cross-section of community groups.
