Mosman Council welcomes $75,000 arts funding

16 October 2014

Mosman Council has welcomed $75,000 in annual Arts NSW funding for Mosman Art Gallery to assist in the presentation of its exhibitions and education programs.

The funding will support the gallery’s development of a diverse range of exhibitions, new media, music, collections, education workshops and artist residencies.

“This incremental funding increase is welcome recognition of Mosman Art Gallery’s positive contribution and will be used to further develop a vibrant visual arts culture and arts scene in Mosman,” Mosman Mayor Cr Peter Abelson said.

“The funding will enable the gallery to boost community participation in arts and cultural activities.”

Mosman Art Gallery was one of 70 organisations or programs across the state to receive the Arts NSW funding.

Member for North Shore Jillian Skinner toured the gallery after today’s announcement, viewing the current exhibition Eye of the Beholder: The Art of Lucy Culliton.

The exhibition, which features more than 130 artworks exploring the work of talented contemporary painter Lucy Culliton until 30 November, has quickly proven to be one of the gallery’s most successful exhibitions.

Mosman Art Gallery’s exhibition program is derived from local, national and international sources and covers arts as well as craft and design, including historical and contemporary themes and subjects.

Gallery talks, seminars and lectures for visitors, students and arts professionals accompany exhibitions.
