Mosman's Dog Poo Fairy campaign scoops top award07 August 2015
Mosman Council’s innovative There’s no such thing as the dog poo fairy campaign has scooped the pool as winner of the Excellence in Communication category (for areas with a population of 30,000 or less) in the RH Dougherty Awards.
“The award recognises the innovation of our There’s no such thing as the dog poo fairy campaign, which has been very successful locally as well as generating significant interest from councils further afield,” Mosman Mayor Cr Peter Abelson said.
“These awards demonstrate that Mosman Council continues to perform at a level of excellence recognised by its peers.”
The campaign, which aims to encourage responsible dog ownership, resulted in a 53% reduction in the amount of dog poo found in Mosman Council’s parks and reserves.
The judges commented that it was “great to see humour highlight an issue we all take for granted” and praised the campaign’s “eye catching design, its directness and the very visual and graphic nature of the topic” saying they could see the message “being absorbed by people of all ages, young and old”.
Cr Abelson, who is also President of the Shore Regional Organisation of Councils (SHOROC), congratulated SHOROC for its Excellence in Communication win in the regional organisations of councils category for its Too Good to Waste strategy.
“SHOROC’s win reaffirms that our regional collaboration through SHOROC is delivering results of a very high standard,” he said.
The presentations occurred during last night’s 2015 Local Government Week Awards Presentation which is run by Local Government NSW (LGNSW).
