Planning for Mosman's youth

03 May 2018

Mosman Council’s Youth Services team is reviewing the findings of its comprehensive youth consultation which identified the most significant issues for young people who live, work and play in Mosman.

Key recommendations of the MyVoice Consultation report included addressing the importance of rest for mental health and sustained success, providing a safe space where young people can find information and support and opening communication lines between parents and young people.

“The consultation process has both affirmed the work already being done by Youth Services and given us a blueprint setting out clear needs and solutions,” Mosman Mayor Carolyn Corrigan said.

“We are looking forward to developing the themes identified in the coming months and will be working with young people to put the consultation findings into action.”

The release of the consultation’s findings coincides with the first of the Mayor’s open door sessions with local youth, during which she is seeking to hear first-hand about issues facing Mosman’s young people.

The open door meetings, which began on Monday 7 May, are being held in her office on the first Monday of every month from 3.30pm to 4.30pm.

Major concerns for young people identified in the report include academic pressure, closely followed by body image then alcohol, along with drugs, smoking and peer pressure.

Mosman Youth Services will now share the results with other local stakeholders who are living and working with youth.
