Reading Hour at Barry O’Keefe Library

03 September 2019

Visitors to Barry O’Keefe Library will be encouraged to rediscover or introduce themselves to the benefits of reading by stopping what they’re doing for an hour and picking up a book on Thursday, 19 September.

The library is participating in Australian Reading Hour, a nationwide event which encourages all Australians to take the time to learn, escape or relax through reading on their own or with the children in their lives.

The event reinforces the benefits of reading, which has been shown to help children with forming their identity and setting up for future success and to help adults through significantly reducing stress.

Participants can also take a tour of our Readers’ Advisory Librarian’s favourite bookish websites and learn how to search for books in the library catalogue.

Carers of budding readers can also join a special Reading Hour session run by baby care expert Catherine Korber who will speak about the importance of reading in early childhood development and then run a babytime session.
