Two Capes for the price of one at Mosman’s International Women’s Day Breakfast

16 February 2015

Mosman’s celebration of International Women’s Day will feature two local prominent artists, Ann Cape and Sophie Cape at a breakfast on Friday 6 March from 7.30 to 9.00am at the Mosman Art Gallery.

The mother and daughter artistic duo embrace this year’s International Women’s Day theme of “Make it Happen” in their art and everyday lives.

Painter, sculptor, art teacher and mother of four Ann Cape is one of Australia’s strongest and highly regarded female figurative artists who has been selected in many exhibitions and been a finalist and judge of many art prizes.

Her sculpture, ‘Friendship Tree’, was officially unveiled last year at Allan Border Oval reserve, opposite the Mosman Art Gallery with the twin in place in Mudanjiang, China. The works follow Ann’s residency in Mudanjiang and reflect the relationship between the two communities.

Sophie Cape’s unique and energetic art has placed her as one of the leading artists of her generation. A former ski and cycling champion, avalanche survivor and self-confessed adrenalin-junkie, Sophie recently hiked through the Himalayas dragging a canvas behind her along the way. She recently won the much coveted, Portia Geach Memorial Award with her mother, who was a finalist, taking out the People’s Choice Award.

Tickets are $15 per person including admittance and breakfast. Booking are essential via or call Council’s Events Team on 9978 4050.

Ann and Sophie Cape will also feature in an exhibition at Mosman Art Gallery later this year. For more information please go to or call the Gallery on 9978 4178.

International Women’s Day provides an opportunity for the community to recognise the achievements of women and their contribution to society and is celebrated around the world each year on 8 March.

The Mosman Youth Centre also has a number of events organised in partnership with Headspace, The Cosmetic Kitchen and the Body Shop.
