Mosman PerformsPosted Thursday 27 August 2015
At a time when the NSW Government is elevating the ‘scale and capacity’ of a local council above quality of local services delivered, I am proud that our peers and peak industry bodies acknowledge the quality of our work.
As reported in the Mosman Daily, earlier this month Council received a major communications award for our ‘Dog Poo Fairy’ campaign targeting responsible pet ownership. Judges of the 2015 RH Dougherty Award for Excellence in Communication said that it was “great to see humour highlight an issue we all take for granted” – the Dog Poo Fairy marketing was fun, innovative and certainly difficult to miss!
On the same evening the SHOROC group of Councils, including Mosman, received a communications excellence award for our “Too Good to Waste” program designed to reduce household waste.
Earlier this year, the Mosman Art Gallery was awarded the extraordinary accolade of the National MAGNA Award for the wonderful Bungaree’s Farm exhibition in the Oil Tanks on Middle Head.
These awards demonstrate that the enthusiasm, commitment and creativity that a local council brings to the delivery of local services is quite independent of the size of the population it serves (and indeed possibly related to the creativity of small organisations).
Regrettably the NSW Government seems quite unaware of, and insensitive to, the quality of local services. Meanwhile it will be ‘business as usual’ for Mosman Council as we strive to maintain the high level of service that our community deserves and expects.
