Mosman Residents – Please speak your mindsPosted Thursday 29 October 2015
On Monday evening (26 October) close to 300 residents attended a meeting at the Mosman RS Club to hear and present views on the NSW Government’s council amalgamation policies.
On Tuesday 20 October the State Government released the report of the Independent Pricing and Regulation Tribunal (IPART) which declared every council to the East of Parramatta (except Bankstown) unfit for the future because they were not large enough.
In our case IPART based their conclusion on a comparison with a mega merger of Mosman, North Sydney, Willoughby, Lane Cove, Hunters Hill and two thirds of Ryde.
On Wednesday 21 October, the State Government sent out a note to all councils asking them to provide up to three merger preferences within four weeks by Wednesday 18 November.
To assist our response, Council is asking our residents three questions:
- Do you agree to the amalgamation proposed by the Independent Local Government Review Panel and the NSW Government – i.e. Merge Mosman with North Sydney, Willoughby, Lane Cove, Hunters Hill and two thirds of Ryde? Yes No
- Do you support the amalgamation of Mosman Council with any other Council? Yes No
- Should Mosman Council provide the NSW Government with any merger preferences as requested? Yes No
At the meeting on Monday evening, the overwhelming response was No, No, No.
Please take the opportunity to speak your mind. A survey including the above questions is now available at yourvoicemosman.com.au/survey (online survey and PDF for printing) and at the Mosman Civic Centre or Barry O’Keefe Library. The survey will be open until Tuesday 3 November 2015.
