From the Mayor - 20 May 2020

Posted Wednesday 20 May 2020

After marking our first weekend of greater freedom following the easing of restrictions on Friday, many of us have been cautiously returning to a more normal routine.

We can look forward to the further lifting of restrictions on 1 June with details about what this means for Mosman’s facilities, such as our library and Mosman Art Gallery, set to be made available in the coming week. Meanwhile library users are encouraged to keep their books at home.

Our hard working, newly qualified home-schooling parents will no doubt be eagerly anticipating next week with most of our schoolchildren due back to face-to-face classes.

More shops and businesses have reopened their doors, up to 10 chairs can again be pulled up at cafes and restaurants, and Mosman’s playgrounds, outdoor exercise equipment and skate park and Customer Service centre are operating as usual.

I urge you to continue supporting our local shops and businesses, albeit with the greatest attention to hygiene and physical distancing, as we begin the long and hopefully uninterrupted road to recovery. Our local business operators are so grateful for your continued patronage.

To keep us on track and at a safe 1.5m distance from each other, Council has installed additional signage on our busy retail footpaths, along the Balmoral promenade and in other areas. For our seniors and more vulnerable residents who have had to endure weeks mostly indoors, we are continuing to provide essential Community Care services.

The Australian Government is also working to slow the spread of COVID-19 and I encourage you, if you haven’t already done so, to consider downloading the COVIDSafe app. Widespread use of this app will enable governments to quickly find and contain outbreaks and facilitate the further easing of restrictions while keeping us safe.

As always, we are monitoring NSW Government announcements and remain ready to respond as changes to restrictions are announced. Stay up to date with the status of Council services here.
