Celebrating International Women’s Day

Posted on Friday 7 March 2025

Mosman resident and accomplished journalist and presenter Tara Rushton shared insights at Mosman Council’s International Women’s Day breakfast on her journey in becoming a leader in sports broadcasting.

Rushton was special guest at the event, attended by more than 120 community members and local school students on 7 March at Mosman Art Gallery.

She spoke about her work as the face of sport across Paramount Australia, including Network 10 and Paramount+.

Rushton is best known for hosting live game-day coverage of A-League Men, A-League Women, the Matildas and Socceroos.

She has spent over a decade hosting some of the biggest sporting events on the Australian sporting calendar including the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix, Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, Melbourne Cup Carnival and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Prior to her role at Paramount Australia, Tara held presenting roles at Fox Sports Australia on The Back Page program and Fox Sports News.

Rushton shared insights to her journey through the lens of sport - in media, representation, coverage and language - how society talks about female athletes, how people relate and report on coverage of female sport and the shift she has experienced from over a decade ago – but also how far the pendulum needs to swing.

Her story was a way to connect with others for shared learning and growth.

International Women's Day, marked annually on or close to 8 March, is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.
