Our dedicated and hard-working council staff welcomed hundreds of residents to the comprehensive Mosman Masterplan community drop-in sessions. Thank you for engaging and sharing your views during the initial consultation process. Rest assured we are listening and your feedback will help shape a detailed Masterplan that will be re-presented to the community for further review and consultation.

Council, due to unprecedented numbers of submissions objecting to proposed Low and Mid-Rise applications, has undertaken the consequential task of shaping a credible and workable alternative to present to the NSW Government. Council remains focused on delivering the best outcomes for Mosman in response to the State Government requirement to deliver over the long term, at least 4,700 homes, consistent with the NSW Low and Mid-Rise (LMR) Housing Policy.

I know this is a really challenging time as we all grapple with how to absorb increased density in Mosman. For continuous updates, register at yourvoicemosman.com.au/masterplan. 

Council is preparing a submission to address Transport for NSW’s Northern Beaches Network Review. Key points will include the constraints of the Spit Bridge, the need for improved bus services and the long-term viability of the Spit/Military Road corridor.

Another issue generating strong community concern is the potential partial divestment by the Commonwealth Government of HMAS Penguin and the magnificent angophora forest surrounding the site. Three fully attended community meetings overwhelmingly reflected the community concern due to the critical importance of this site to our community and to all Australians.

I have commenced exploring opportunities to join forces with Woollahra, City of Sydney and Parramatta Councils, with the intention of uniting as one voice so that together we fulsomely strengthen advocacy, garner media traction and gain momentum. I call on all residents to make a submission to both the Department of Defence and the Department of Finance to ensure Mosman’s views are clearly represented: estate.engagement@defence.gov.au and divestment.program@finance.gov.au.

Active transport and local organisations both play an important role in building healthy communities. Recently, the Spit Swimming Club celebrated more than a century of community and tradition, while Warringah Bowling Club has been refreshed into a more open and welcoming space. We are fortunate to have so many opportunities to connect in Mosman.
