From the Mayor - 29 April 2026

Posted on Wednesday 29 April 2026

Council’s Youth Centre and I recently hosted our first Youth Voices Forum to hear directly from young people about the issues that matter most to them. They spoke about mental health and wellbeing, pressures at school, social media, safety, access to local activities and places to connect, and their hopes for the future. It was an insightful conversation, and one we will continue as we ensure young voices help shape Mosman’s future.

We’ve reached an exciting stage in work on our long-term strategic Mosman Masterplan, with community consultation now underway. If you live, work, study, or run a business in Mosman, we want to hear from you. Whether it’s completing the online survey, attending a drop-in session or joining a webinar, your input will help shape a community-led response to the State Government’s Low and Mid-Rise Housing Policy.

I know this has been an uncertain time for many. Our sustained advocacy has been critical in securing agreement from the State Government to develop a long-term Masterplan for Mosman. Community consultation is an important part of this process, allowing you to provide feedback on the principles and proposed options before a final plan is prepared and put out on public exhibition. You can find out more and have your say at yourvoicemosman.com.au/masterplan.

I also encourage residents to attend an upcoming Department of Defence community information session on the future of HMAS Penguin. This will be held on Friday 8 May at 5pm at Mosman Art Gallery and will provide an opportunity to hear directly from Defence and ask questions.

We are fortunate to live in such a beautiful part of the world, and Balmoral Beach remains a special place for our community and visitors from around the globe. A new temporary Seabirds to Seascapes educational display is helping raise awareness of important work happening in our local marine environment – well worth a visit next time you’re there.

Finally, during May we celebrate National Volunteer Week and recognise the incredible contribution of volunteers across Mosman. It humbles me every year, meeting and hearing from the amazing volunteers who support Council’s programs, projects and services. And we can always use more of you! If you have time to give, we would love to hear from you. Contact our Volunteers’ Office on 9978 4126 or email volunteer@mosman.nsw.gov.au
