Mosman Design Awards winners
The winners of the 2025 Mosman Design Awards have been announced with a modern twist on a 1960s classic taking out three prizes, a Beauty Point build named best new house, and a reimagined residence voted the People’s Choice.
Some of Australia’s leading architects gathered at the Allan Border Oval Pavilion for the awards presentation evening on 9 September.
All 10 nominated projects were proudly displayed in the Pavilion, as anticipation built ahead of the announcement of this year’s winners.
The judging panel was made up of three industry leading architects, Gabrielle Morrish, Renato D’Ettorre and Nick Tobias. They selected the winning designs after site visits and in-depth discussion on various factors including sustainability, use of materials, siting, innovation and functionality.
After careful deliberation the judges decided on the following winners:
- Overall Winner - Cloaked House by TRIAS
- Winner New House Category - Beauty Point House by CO-AP (Architects)
- Winner Alterations & Additions Category - Cloaked House by TRIAS
- Winner Sustainable Design Category - Cloaked House by TRIAS
The judges cited Cloaked House’s ‘gracious and unexpected’ qualities, and its gesture of openness that enriches the neighbourhood:
"Transparency is its defining quality, extended sightlines from the mature pepper tree and sandstone-carved street through to the bushland canopy at the rear, dissolving the boundary between house and landscape. The project's success rests on the clients' vision and the architect's response, respecting the original 1960s house while transforming its character.”
For the New House category winner, the judges highlighted the emotional current that sparks curiosity and reflection:
“At Beauty Point House, mature Angophoras, rock outcrops, and the natural bay setting give the site character, offering both inspiration and challenge. The house forms a clear link between the built and the natural, guided by the site while exploring design possibilities."
More than 270 online votes were received by the community for the People’s Choice Award, with Vastu House by McNally Architects taking the honours.
