Council’s investment in rooftop solar is delivering strong environmental results, with existing systems saving around 218 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions each year and generating approximately 175 MWh of renewable energy last year.
Across Council building assets, there are currently 197 kWh of rooftop solar systems installed. Council is now exploring further opportunities to increase solar generation by expanding existing systems and installing new panels across additional sites.
The Middle Head Oval Pavilion upgrade, scheduled for completion in early 2027, will include the installation of new solar panels to help offset energy emissions and improve the facility’s sustainability performance.
Since July 2022, all Council electricity has been sourced from renewable energy through a joint procurement agreement secured with 24 other councils.
As part of its commitment to achieving net zero emissions for operations by 2030, Council is also reviewing energy use across key facilities to identify opportunities to reduce consumption and improve efficiency.
