Supporting art acquisition

Posted on Tuesday 10 March 2026

Residents can give back to the community for generations to come by helping Mosman Art Gallery acquire Sea-bite Headland, an evocative new work by acclaimed Mosman artist Jo Bertini.

The 2025 painting is the focus of this year’s Acquisition Fund, which supports the acquisition and commissioning of important artworks.

Commissioned originally for the gallery’s Curlew Camp exhibition, Sea-bite Headland holds deep personal meaning for the artist, depicting a view from her childhood home in Mosman, and offering a contemporary reinterpretation of the Edwards Bay landscape.

The painting also pays homage to Bertini's mother, celebrated sculptor Anne Ferguson, whose home and studio overlook North Head and the ‘sea bite’ headland.

This wonderful work celebrates the women artists who worked at the Curlew Artist Camp such as Ethel Carrick and Hilda Rix Nicholas, breaking the traditional norms of the time and creating important work.

Thanks to community generosity, the Acquisition Fund has already helped secure important works by Imants Tillers, Thea Anamara Perkins, Arthur Streeton and Emily Galicek.

Residents can contribute to the Acquisition Fund at mosmanartgallery.org.au to help bring Sea-bite Headland into the Mosman Art Collection.
