A new interpretive sign at the entrance to Chowder Bay Wharf is helping shine a light on efforts to protect the endangered White’s seahorse and restore its habitat in Sydney Harbour.
Developed by Mosman Council in partnership with the Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS), the sign highlights the Sydney Seahorse Project and ways the community can get involved as citizen scientists. Earlier this year, SIMS released captive-bred White’s seahorses into Chowder Bay, where they now live in specially designed "seahorse hotels" that provide shelter and food in areas where natural habitat has been lost.
The project complements Council's partnership with SIMS to restore Posidonia seagrass, a vital habitat for seahorses and other marine life, right here in Mosman's backyard.
