Watch out for wildlife
Mosman residents are being asked to stay alert following the confirmation of H5 bird flu in a wild bird at Warriewood on the Northern Beaches.
The NSW Government has confirmed a greater crested tern tested positive for the virus. While the risk to people remains low, residents can help protect local wildlife by avoiding contact with sick or dead birds and reporting sightings.
If you see sick or dead birds or other wildlife, do not touch them. Take a photo, note the location and report multiple sick or dead animals to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline or 1800 675 888. If the birds are in a public place such as a park, playground or beach, also contact Mosman Council on 9978 4000.
Residents are also encouraged to keep pets away from sick or dead wildlife and avoid feeding wild birds, as large gatherings of birds can increase the spread of disease.
Anyone who keeps backyard chickens or other poultry should review their biosecurity measures and monitor birds for signs of illness.
