MYAL 2025 winners announced

Young creative minds were recognised and awarded yesterday evening at the 2025 Mosman Youth Awards in Literature. 

This year saw an uptake in entries by over 100, with a total of 522 submitted.

First, second, and highly commended prizes were awarded in five poetry and short story categories for junior and senior secondary and primary school students. This year also featured the Library's Choice Award for the first time. 

Winners have the opportunity to speak at the inaugural Live Readings Night happening next Wednesday 27 August. All are welcome to attend and enjoy a night of literary inspiration.

Students can view their work in the MYAL Writers' Anthology 2025, available for free on BorrowBox with a Shorelink Library membership.

  • First Prize - The horrifying human and the cake-crumb loving cockroaches by Robin K
  • Second Prize - Through the Glass by Mairah K
  • Highly Commended - The Unseen Symphony by Quinne B

Junior Story 

  • First Prize - All His Bones by Tara C
  • Second Prize - Even When I No Longer Know the Words by Elly L
  • Highly Commended - Eve's Apology by Elena H

Senior Story 

  • First Prize - Scarlet in the Green by Alicia S
  • Second Prize - The Version They Buried by Isabella J
  • Highly Commended - Proper Women by Georgia D

Junior Poetry 

  • First Prize - What is This Dish? by Myles SM
  • Second Prize -  Her Special Place by Evelyn C
