Summer Reading Challenge 2025-26

Posted on Monday 17 November 2025

December marks the start of summer and the start of the Summer Reading Challenge at Barry O'Keefe Library. This is an initiative across the Shorelink Library Network – including Lane Cove, Mosman and North Sydney libraries.

The Summer Reading Challenge aims to show that reading can be enjoyable and encourages children and young people to keep exploring and learning throughout the summer months. While we've made it fun with a simple reading challenge, rewards and an end of summer party, the real winners of the program are developing reading as a life long habit and boosting literacy skills this summer.

The challenge kicks off 1 December and runs until 30 January.

Participating is simple:

  • Register – in person at any Shorelink Library to receive your 5 reading tracker bookmarks or through the Beanstack app to track your reading digitally
  • Read – at daycare, the library, or at home. No matter what, where, or with who - every book counts!
  • Log – keep track of your reading progress by logging every 15 minutes read

For every 1 hour logged, collect a free prize from your registered library and receive 1 entry into the major prize draw. By completing all 5 reading tracker bookmarks you will earn a GOLDEN TICKET to the Summer Reading Party.

It's free to join the library and the challenge. Drop into the library today to pick up your Summer Reading Challenge activity booklet, and remember, any kind of reading counts towards the challenge – library books, fiction, magazines, non-fiction, family reading time, re-reading old favourites and more!
