Neil William Martin competed in the 1972 Munich Olympic games in the backstroke and the individual medley.
He came 7th in the finals of the 200m backstroke.
Neil was born in Brisbane, Queensland and started his swimming career at the age of 7 under the guidance of Joe King. Neil attended Ironside State Primary School, St Lucia and went to Brisbane Boys Grammar in his secondary years.
In his HSC year he swam at Munich alongside Shane Gould and other swimming greats.
After Munich Neil went on to represent Australia at the Belgrade World Swimming Championships. In 1973 he was accepted into Harvard University as a private scholarship holder to successfully complete a degree in Economics. He has recently been appointed to the board of Australian Swimming. His swimming interests are also as a committee member of the Union of Old Swimmers.
Today Neil is a partner with Spencer Stuart, an international executive management recruitment company. He has a family with two sons and has lived in Mosman since 1995.
