Brett Hill first represented Australia in 1962 at the Empire Games in Perth, where he won a bronze medal for the 200m butterfly.
In 1963 he participated in a unique World Swimming Tour by an Australian team consisting of 14 swimmers which visited Japan, Russia and the United Kingdom.
At the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Brett was a finalist in the 200m butterfly event, and in 1966 he brought home a 200m butterfly silver medal from the Commonwealth Games in Jamaica.
In his later years he worked as a swimming coach and instructor at Willoughby Leisure Centre.
