Syd Fischer has been competing in sailing for over 30 years.
He has captained six Admiral's Cup Teams including the victorious team of 1979.
His major ocean racing wins include the World Championship One Ton Cup in 1971, the Fastnet Race in England in 1971, line honours in the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in 1988 and 1990, Sydney to Hobart handicap honours in 1992 and the Round State Race in Hawaii in 1980.
Fischer contested the America's Cup elimination series in 1983 (in Advance), 1987 (in Steak 'n Kidney), 1992 (in Challenge Australia), 1995 and 1999 and captained Australia's Kenwood Cup team in 1996 and 1998.
He was named Australian Yachtsman of the Year in 1971 and 1993 and Australian Ocean Racer of the Year in 1993, 1996 and 2002.
He was awarded an OBE for Sporting Achievements, elected to the NSW Sports Hall of Fame and received an award for Services to Yachting in 2002-03.
