Australian Olympic Pentathlon representative
Forbes Carlile MBE was Australia's first representative in the Modern Pentathlon, at the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games.
He is perhaps better known as one of Australia's pioneering swimming instructors. Forbes Carlile has been an innovator in the use of sports science in coaching.
He was the Olympic Swimming Coach in London, 1948, and Head Swimming Coach at the World Championships in Belgrade, 1973.
He is an inductee into the International Hall of Swimming Fame and the Sport Australia Hall of Fame. He is also a Life Member of Ryde Swimming Club, Carlile Swimming Club and the Australian Swimming Coaches Association.
Forbes spent his boyhood days at the baths at Clifton Gardens, Balmoral and The Spit Swimming Club, where he was both Junior and Senior Captain.
