Carly's athletic career blossomed in 1990 when, as a member of the Australian Maccabi Games Team, she won gold medals in Detroit in the 13-14 year old 400 meter track event and in the cross country contest. 1992-93 saw Carly compete at the National Championships for Track and Field, and also the NSW Triathlon Championships.
In 1994, Carly was named in the NSW Academy of Sport Towards 2000 Track and field program. Carly was then selected to attend the Casio Target 2000 Triathlon Camps in 1995. In the same year Carly won both the NSW and Australian Junior Duathlon Championships, and represented Australia in the World Duathlon Championship in Mexico in 1995, finishing 12th in the world for the elite under twenty-one year olds.
Carly's good form continued into 1996, winning the Qld Danskin Triathlon, and runner up in the Qld Junior State Triathlon Championships.
Stress fractures in the feet saw Carly transfer to cycling in 1997. She won the Queensland Regional Criterium Championships in 1999.
Carly retired from competitive sport after the 2000 Sydney Olympics due to injury.
