International Day of People With Disability

Posted on Friday 3 December 2021

In the lead up to International Day of People With Disability this year, Council asked community members “What does inclusion mean to you?” with the aim of creating a platform for people from all parts of the community to reflect on inclusion in Mosman. The campaign asked community members to submit ideas as written responses as well as photos and artworks to increase awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability. Two of the entries were selected by our panel of judges to win 2x $250 gift vouchers (Winners) and a $100 gift voucher was also awarded to a highly commended submission.

The judging process was particularly difficult due to the quality of entries, and Council would like to thank all who submitted a response and participated in the inclusion campaign.

Winners:

  • Chelsea Thomas for her artwork “Love is Love” (see image)
  • Raphael Carrasco for his Slam Poetry entitled “Inclusion” (watch video)

Highly Commended

  • Gloria Gong for her written submission: “Inclusion to me is everyone feeling like they belong in a community - people feel respected, loved and understood by others around them”.

This inclusion campaign was just one of various activities and events that Council has facilitated as part of International Day of People With Disability held on December 3 each year.
