New habitat tree

Several safe nesting sites have been created for native wildlife in the upper branches and trunk of a dead tree in Rosherville Reserve.
Mosman Council contractors provided additional habitat by creating the five artificial hollows for native microbats, native birds and ringtail possums in an ideal location near bushland.
The skilled chainsaw carving techniques used to create the hollows also reduced risk by ensuring a sound tree structure.
In the natural environment tree hollows suitable for habitat can take up to 50 years to develop for the many native species of birds and mammals which require tree hollows for safe nesting sites to raise their young.
