Simply Cups recycling

Posted on Tuesday 11 May 2021

A new trial will enable residents to recycle single-use take-away cups so that the items can be reprocessed into other goods.

Residents can deposit their used cups and lids in dedicated bins near the entrance to Council in Mosman Square and at Balmoral and Mosman Bay during the trial which will finish in September.

Through the Council partnership with Simply Cups and the NSW Environment Protection Authority, liquids, lids and cups are sorted as they are placed into the bin, with liquid and lids being eventually discarded into general waste streams, while the cups are collected and sent off for reprocessing into new products, including reusable cups and recycled road surfacing.

While the unique program addresses the challenge of waste from single-use cups, wastage can be avoided altogether by using a reusable cup.
