Ulm plaque

Posted on Wednesday 10 November 2021

A memorial plaque acknowledging the significant deeds of Flight Lieutenant Charles Ulm, AFC, has been unveiled in Mosman Square.

Flt Lt Ulm grew up in Mosman, saw active service in WWI at Gallipoli and on the Western Front, and was badly wounded in France.

Imbued with an entrepreneurial spirit and a vision of successful commercial airlines, Ulm later went on to partner Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith in their historic flights throughout the world and in the formation of Australian National Airways.

Ulm’s son, John, who attended the unveiling ceremony, credits his aviator father with helping to enable modern-day Australians to “jump on and off planes likes buses”.
