Allan Border Oval redevelopment underway

The Allan Border Oval pavilion project has begun with initial works underway to construct an improved pavilion, grandstand and facilities along with improved landscaping, barbecue and a practice netball/basketball court.

The oval will remain open during the works with the area around the building fenced off for construction and public safety during the project, which is due to be completed in just over 12 months.

Facilities on the ground floor of the new pavilion will include change rooms, public toilet amenities, groundkeeper/storage facilities and a kiosk while first floor facilities, accessible via a lift, will include a function room, kitchen, toilets, scorers room and a terrace.

The project will incorporate a range of environmental features including the installation of solar panels, rainwater harvesting and low carbon concrete.

Mosman Council Director Environment and Planning Craig Covich said the plans were developed in consultation with a range of stakeholders to provide a facility that will meet the future needs of local sporting clubs and the community.

“These stylish and functional sporting facilities provide improved accessibility, casual recreational facilities and a building that allows for growth in the local sporting clubs while setting new standards in heritage, sustainability, public space and accessibility,” he said.

“State-of-the-art features will minimise the impact of the building on the environment with solar panels set to generate enough power to provide more than half of the electricity load for the building and oval, a rainwater harvesting system to provide water for the building’s toilets and to water the surrounding parks and gardens, while building materials were carefully selected for design adaptability and to reduce the life-cycle costs, such as low carbon concrete.”

The first stage involves the demolition of the existing structure and the laying of foundations. Updates on the project will be posted on works.mosman.nsw.gov.au.
