Balmoral Playground upgrade

A major upgrade to one of Mosman’s most popular playgrounds has proven so popular that additional seating and infant swings will soon be added to cater for the unprecedented demand.

The renewal of Balmoral Playground, which incorporates natural elements as well as increased accessibility via new pathways, has resulted in increased visitation since the playground re-opened in mid-June.

“We have installed a range of modern play equipment and utilised existing trees for shade over play, picnic and seating areas”, Director Environment and Planning Craig Covich said.

“Community consultation confirmed that slides, climbing equipment, swings and fencing are high priorities so we have enclosed the playground and included a range of equipment for younger children as well as extending the playground’s reach to more challenging pieces such as a climbing dome which is also suitable for older users.

“Many issues need to be considered when council undertakes a playground improvement project, including the requirements and preferences of local residents, recreational needs of the broader community and site aspects.”

While many new features have been added to the playground, including an extended soft fall surface, a five-way swing set, climbing dome and separate mini climbing wall and slippery dip, a popular existing tug boat for younger children was refurbished and retained. The upgrade follows similar successful renewals to playgrounds at Spit West and Rosherville Reserve.
