Council merger proposal meeting dates announced

Residents and ratepayers are being encouraged to attend one of two public meetings on 2 February which have been announced for the proposed Mosman, Manly and (part) Warringah Councils merger proposal.

The NSW State Government announced in December 2015 its intention to amalgamate Mosman with Manly and the southern part of Warringah, creating a new council of just over 150,000 people.

On 6 January 2016 the Minister for Local Government formally provided the proposal to Council along with an outline of the process to be followed. The 20 page proposal and process can be found at www.councilboundaryreview.nsw.gov.au.

Under Section 263 of the Local Government Act 1993, the Chief Executive of the Office of Local Government or his/her Delegate is required to consider a range of issues including financial issues, community of interest, historical values, the attitudes of local residents, representation etc. and report to the Boundaries Commission for comment and to the Government.

The Government has appointed Mr. Michael Bullen, Deputy Director General Agriculture in the Department of Primary Industries, as the Delegate to prepare the report to Government on the proposal.

Individuals and organisations are invited to attend one of the public meetings from 1-5pm or 7-10pm on 2 February 2016 at Manly Golf Club to express their opinions on the proposal.
