Gift Appeal extended

Mosman’s Christmas Gift Appeal has been extended until this Thursday to enable residents wishing to donate gifts for children and teenagers in drought-affected rural communities to contribute to this year’s campaign.

Gifts are being distributed by Mosman resident Selina Win Pe’s Will Of Courage foundation to needy regional communities across NSW.

Mosman Mayor Carolyn Corrigan said this year’s appeal had generated a great response so far.

“We’ve had a fantastic response from the community who have been generously donating gifts for children and teens in drought-affected areas with nearly 500 gifts already donated and so we have decided to extend the appeal for several more days,” she said.

“It’s heartening to see the generosity of our Mosman community which has been greatly appreciated by our needy regional communities at this difficult time.”

Gifts are being distributed to communities across NSW including The Riverina and South West Slopes, Central West and North West and Northern Tablelands.

Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council Mayor Abb McAlister said the efforts of Selina Win Pe and the Mosman community had narrowed the city-country divide.

“Selina visited our community last week (December 4) and our local families and children were so touched by the gifts, vouchers and caps she gave us,” he said.

“She and the Mosman community have helped bring city and country communities closer together in our time of great hardship.”

New, unwrapped gifts can be left beneath the Christmas tree in the Council foyer until Thursday 12 December, 5pm.
