Grant for Balmoral Oval upgrade
Mosman residents will soon be able to enjoy upgraded infrastructure at the popular and much-loved Balmoral Oval following a successful grant application.
Community sport including Little Athletics and the Mosman Cricket Club as well as individual players of a wide range of sports will benefit from the planned upgrades.
The $1 million in funding will go towards upgrading the existing oval including playing surface redeployment, installation of 'Santa Ana' Couch natural turf surface, installation of a new sub-surface drainage and automated irrigation system, construction of two new cricket wickets on concrete slabs and reconstruction of turf wicket table.
In addition to the playing field upgrade, a new perimeter path will be installed, existing floodlights will be converted to new energy-efficient LEDs and athletics surfaces will be upgraded.
Mosman Mayor Carolyn Corrigan thanked Minister for Sport the Hon. Alister Henskens SC MP and Member for North Shore Ms Felicity Wilson MP for supporting the successful grant application through the Multi-Sport Community Facility Fund 2022/23.
“Mosman residents can now look forward to enjoying upgraded infrastructure at this popular and much-loved oval,” Cr Corrigan said. “Clubs and individual players of a wide range of sports will benefit from the planned upgrades which can now be implemented through this vital funding.”
Ms Wilson said she was very pleased to share the news: “This is a huge win for our local community, with many different clubs using Balmoral Oval for their activities. Sport is such an important part of our community, and I am always proud to see investment in our local clubs and facilities through our various grants programs”.
Mr Henskens said the NSW government has now invested $200 million in new and upgraded community sporting facilities through the first two rounds of the program: “Regardless of age, ability or the sport you play, this program is delivering game-changing projects that promote participation and secure a brighter future for local communities across NSW”.
Works will commence in 2023 and Mosman Council, which is contributing to the funding of the upgrades, will work with the clubs and user groups to ensure impacts on the use of the oval are minimised during construction.
