Local band support for big acts at Shoreshocked

Three piece local band Black Iguana will take to the Shoreshocked stage on Saturday 1 April alongside big acts such as Luca Brasi, Camp Cope and The Hard Aches after winning the Battle of the Bands.

They were among eight bands who battled it out on a Friday night to an audience of more than 160 youth to win one of two prized support spots at the annual National Youth Week music festival.

“The Battle of the Bands was a great opportunity for us to gain some exposure in front of an audience our own age,” Black Iguana member Will Hobkirk said. “We’re very excited to be playing at Shoreshocked 2017 with some of our favourite artists, like Camp Cope and Luca Brasi.”

The local bands’ talent impressed music industry judges at the event, with one describing the pool of talent as making him “really excited about the potential and the future of Australian music in this country”.

After hosting Shoreshocked Battle of the Bands this month, Mosman Council Youth Services’ Vocal Rewind volunteers will now cheer on the local bands at Shoreshocked.

Shoreshocked is a free music event for young people aged 12-25 years of age. It is an alcohol, drug and smoke free event featuring great music acts, market stalls, food and much more. Kicking off at 11am it will run through till 5pm at St Leonards Park, North Sydney. Shoreshocked is hosted by Mosman, Northern Beaches, Hornsby Shire, North Sydney, Hunters Hill, Lane Cove, City of Ryde, Ku-ring-gai and Willoughby Councils.
