Mosman cleans up after the storm

Mosman Council staff are continuing to assess damage and clean up after the weekend’s storm with incidents posing a health and safety risk prioritised ahead of clearing blocked roads and footpaths and removing debris from reserves and verges.

Despite the ferocity of the storm, only two street trees came down in Mosman, including in Upper Avenue Road and Thompson Street (near Bradley’s Head Road) where crews have been clearing debris. Council has received reports of several trees on private property and in reserves also being damaged.

“Council has responded to numerous calls from residents and carried out various storm damage inspections and council staff are working hard to ensure roads and paths are cleared as soon as possible,” Director Environment and Planning Craig Covich said.

“It’s pleasing to see our vigilant tree inspection program ensured storm damage was kept to a minimum with only two council-owned street trees coming down during the height of the storm and, as a result, the storm hasn’t impacted on service provision with business continuing as usual for our residents.”

Council is also monitoring Mosman’s coastal areas, with Rosherville Reserve and Chinaman’s Beach suffering erosion and litter clean ups planned for Chinaman’s Beach and Balmoral where plastic debris washed up.

Kimbriki Resource Recovery Centre is also providing support to Mosman residents by offering free tipping for storm damaged material.

Residents transporting storm damaged materials to Kimbriki will need to show proof of address in the form of a driver’s licence, rate notice or parking sticker.
