Mosman Design Awards Winners announced

A “beautifully crafted” home which retains a family feel has taken out the top honour at this year’s prestigious Mosman Design Awards.

The property, 44 Hopetoun Avenue, designed by Rolf Ockert Architect, was the winner in the Contribution to the Built Environment category.

Judges described the home as a “beautifully crafted architectural experience from beginning to end. The street presentation is quiet and humble yet elegant which is a lovely introduction to the interior which is dramatic, dynamic and multi-layered”.

They also noted the emphasis on sustainability with 10 × 10kw batteries powered by 27 solar panels, 30,000 litres of rain water collection, planted roofs and careful management of solar access and thermal massing.

Two other properties received commendations in the category including 28 Burran Avenue by Corben Architects and a property designed by SAOTA – Arch + Int Arch, Tanner Kibble Denton Architects with interior design by Tanner Kibble Denton Architects and Alexandra Kidd Design.

The winner of the Alterations and Additions to a Residential Property was 37 Kardinia Road by Robert Weir, while 68 Wolseley Road by John Bohane and 73 Bay Street by Adam Hampton received commendations.

Judges said 37 Kardinia Road “demonstrates substantial design skill and sensitivity in achieving an outstanding renovation and re-styling of an existing inter war bungalow style property sited on a prominent corner site in Clifton Gardens”.

The People’s Choice Award went to 73 Bay Street which received more than double the votes of last awards People’s Choice Award with 436 votes from the community.
