Mosman gives generously to Bear Cottage
More than 400 gifts were donated by local residents to the 2018 Mosman Christmas Gift Appeal for Bear Cottage, a home-like hospice dedicated to caring for children with life-limiting conditions and their families.
The Mosman Christmas Gift Appeal supports a different children’s charity every year, and gives local residents an easy opportunity to donate to those less fortunate in the community by placing an unwrapped gift under the Christmas tree in the foyer of Mosman’s Civic Centre.
Mosman Mayor Carolyn Corrigan said local residents always give generously to this appeal, and this Christmas the very deserving Bear Cottage was selected.
“We thank the local community for their generosity. Council staff were thrilled to be able to pass on so many lovely gifts, which will hopefully brighten the lives of the children at Bear Cottage at this special time of year,” Mayor Corrigan said.
Community Relations Manager for Bear Cottage, Bronwen Simmons, said the hospice relies on the community and was grateful for the donation: “There is no cost for families to stay at Bear Cottage and we rely on the community for its support. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to those who have helped to make Christmas such a special time for our children and families”.
About Bear Cottage
Located in Manly, Bear Cottage feels like a home away from home rather than a hospital. Staff do not wear uniforms, no medical procedures are carried out in the bedrooms, and the children’s rooms are set up like their normal bedrooms at home.
Bear Cottage provides excellence in paediatric medical care 24 hours a day, and its affiliation with The Children’s Hospital at Westmead means it can provide families with access to some of the best medical resources in the world.
