Pawfect finish for festival
The Festival of Mosman 2019 has ended on a pawfect note with thousands flocking to Sunday’s final highlight Pet’s Day Out, bringing to a close a range of council and community events which were staged over the 10-day period.
About three thousand animal lovers and their mainly furry friends participated in a range of activities, such as Dr Katrina Warren and The Wonderdogs’ show and fun competitions as well as browsing the latest gourmet food and carefully crafted accessories for pets on Mosman Square and Village Green.
“Pet’s Day Out is a fabulous outing for pets, their owners and animal lovers alike and this year’s event, which featured new shows such as Dr Katrina Warren and The Wonderdogs and a record number of 100 human participants and their pets in our competitions, such as Cutest Pet, was a real festival highlight,” Mosman Mayor Carolyn Corrigan said.
“The community is responding to the high quality and greater variety of our event initiatives by turning out in record numbers, particularly to the ever-popular Pet’s Day Out as well as to our new evening events, such as the inaugural Dinner on the Green and Traditional Sunset Ceremony.”
Despite making their first appearance at the festival, the sumptuous Italian Dinner on the Green was booked out with 130 people and the Traditional Sunset Ceremony and indigenous dance performances and workshops brought hundreds to Balmoral Beach on a weeknight. Meanwhile the OctoberFeast gourmet food, wine and artisan night market which was held for the first time the previous year, also proved extremely popular.
The biennial festival, staged from Friday 18 to Sunday 27 October, is the area’s biggest community celebration with a program of more than 60 events, activities and exhibitions.
