Anniversary artwork

Posted on Wednesday 29 April 2020

A work by First Nations artist Blak Douglas (aka Adam Hill) marking the 250th anniversary of Captain James Cook’s voyage to the East Coast of Australia in 1770 will be seen around Mosman over coming weeks.

Mosman Art Gallery commissioned the work which is on a series of large 3D numbers that were manufactured by the Mosman Men’s Shed which have initially been placed on the Village Green.

“I’ve created motifs to line the edges of the numerals upon the metallic silver areas. The ‘2’ has Aboriginal footprints, the ‘5’ has boot prints and the ‘0’ cow prints. These all appear in black to stand out on the silver,” Blak Douglas said.
