Consultative Committee Minutes

Council has a number of Community Consultative Committees whose members are able to provide specialist information to Council from a community perspective. Minutes of meetings of these Committees are presented to Council for their consideration. At the October meeting, the Minutes of the Access and Mobility Community Consultative Committee held in August and the Active Transport Working Group meeting held in July were tabled.

Audit Risk and Improvement Committee – Appointment of Independent Member

Expressions of Interest have been called to fill a vacancy on the Audit Risk and Improvement Committee. The vacancy has arisen as a result of the expiration of the term of Mr Brian Halstead. Interviews are being conducted and the Mayor and General Manager will make the appointment. Mr Halstead was thanked for his contribution to the Committee particularly in relation to his work as the Chair.

2018 Financial Statements

The Financial Statements have been prepared and while an audit has been conducted, there is a formal requirement under the Local Government Act for them to be referred for audit. Council resolved to do this and to forward the Audited Financial Report to the Office of Local Government once it has been received.

Mosman Waste Reduction Response

Council has concerns with the use of single-use plastic items during events and on public open space. While policies exist to guide members of the public and the community, they could be improved to clarify Council’s requirements. At the meeting Council resolved to update the Sustainable Event Management Policy and Special Event Management Policy and to undertake up to ten audits to collect data on non-compliance with the policies.

Spit East Streetscape Update

Initial work on the Spit East streetscape update was completed in December 2017. After consulting with community and receiving a contribution to the work from the NSW Transport B-Line project, Council has now resolved to award a tender to proceed with the second phase. This work will create a commuter friendly environment and increase safety and amenity for pedestrians and vehicles. It will include new recreational spaces, landscaping and furniture. Ongoing communication with local businesses and residents will occur throughout the works.

Raglan West Car Park

At the meeting, Council considered a report on the options available to Council to develop the Raglan Street West site, particularly in relation to increasing parking spaces for the community. After discussion, Council resolved to investigate the possibility of constructing a prefabricated single storey car park on the existing site.
