Council Decided - 22 September 2017

Posted on Tuesday 26 September 2017

The Council Meeting held on Friday 22 September 2017 (formally adjourned from Tuesday 19 September) was the first meeting of the 2017-2020 term of Mosman Council, at which all Councillors were present.

Oaths and Affirmations by Councillors

It is a new requirement of the Local Government Act 1993 that all newly elected Councillors take an oath or affirmation of office at or before the first Council meeting of the council after the Councillor is elected. In taking this oath or affirmation Councillors of Mosman Council commit to the following

‘to undertake the duties of the office of Councillor in the best interests of the people of Mosman and Mosman Council’ and to ‘faithfully and impartially carry out the functions, powers, authorities and discretions vested in me under the Local Government Act 1993 or any other Act to the best of my ability and judgment’.

The Mayor and Councillors (as named below) took the oath or affirmation of office at this Council meeting:

  • Mayor Carolyn Corrigan
  • Councillor Roy Bendall
  • Councillor David Cook
  • Councillor Simon Menzies
  • Councillor Libby Moline
  • Councillor Tom Sherlock
  • Councillor Jacqui Willoughby

Election of Deputy Mayor

Councillor Roy Bendall was elected as Mosman Council’s Deputy Mayor for the 12-month term to September 2018. Councillor Bendall also served as Mosman’s Deputy Mayor from 2012-2015 and from 2016-2017.

Councillor and Community Membership of Membership of Committees and Other Groups

Council determined Councillor representation on a range of internal and external Committees and other groups for a period of three years. It was also decided that the Charters for Council’s Active Transport and Visual Amenity Community Consultative Committees be slightly amended and that further consideration be given to the future scope of the Visual Amenity Committee. Council decided to call expressions of interest for community membership on the Active Transport, Visual Amenity, Access and Mobility and Arts and Culture Community Consultative Committees and, prior to determining future membership of the Friendship Cities Committee and Youth Forum, to give further consideration to the operation of these committees. The Independent Mosman Committee will not be formally constituted for the current Council as this Committee has fulfilled its original Charter.

The next meeting of Council will be held on Tuesday 3 October 2017.
