Chris Borough will talk about his latest book The Light that Never Shone. Chris grew up on Balmoral Beach and as an 8-year-old, the decaying ruins of the Star Amphitheatre, at the northern end of Edwards Beach, provided a grand adventure opportunity

His life-long fascination with the temple has been brought to fruition in this book which traces the story of the Amphitheatre from the formation of the Theosophical Society in New York in 1875 through to the emergence of the Order of the Star in the East in 1911 and finally to the abolition of the Order in 1929.

For decades, it was believed the amphitheatre had been built to watch Jesus walk through the Heads and Chris will explain why that is not accurate.

The amphitheatre project suffered substantial financial losses and those who had paid up to £100 for a seat had to accept their dreams would never be realised. By 1951 the site had been sold, the structure demolished and Stancliff Flats built.
