From the Mayor - 26 March 2020
Our lives are being adversely impacted by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and will continue to be in the months ahead. This rapidly evolving public heath pandemic is unpredictable, unsettling and concerning for all of us, including our children.
I want to reassure everyone that Council’s senior executive staff, in consultation with the Mayor, are constantly reviewing and responding to the latest information on a day-by-day basis, and following the best expert advice available. The health, safety and welfare of our entire community, volunteers and Council staff is our top priority.
To that end, Council has cancelled or suspended a number of programs, activities and events, and is continuously monitoring developments. Please appreciate that this information could be out of date so regularly visit the Council website for the latest updates at mosman.nsw.gov.au.
Please be assured that Council will deliver essential resident services, as well as services to support the elderly and our most vulnerable, such as community transport and Mosman Meals. Council has also increased the frequency of cleaning at high-use facilities, such as public bathrooms.
During these challenging times of social distancing, I encourage residents to creatively reach out to each other and offer assistance where you can. More than ever, we need to connect, be vigilant and look after each other, especially our children, elderly residents and the more vulnerable members of the community.
The impact on our local businesses and the broader community to the closure of non-essential businesses will be devastating. It goes without saying that whenever possible, please shop local as our fantastic businesses critically need our utmost support during these unprecedented times.
We are in unchartered waters, but we are in them together. The level of collaboration and cooperation from my fellow Councillors, neighbouring Councils and government agencies has been excellent. In closing, I dedicate this month’s column to the fearless and brave frontline health workers and medical scientists who are working around the clock to keep us safe and to develop the COVID-19 vaccine.
