From the Mayor - 27 November 2024
Last week, I attended the Local Government of NSW (LGNSW) conference in Tamworth with Councillors Corrigan and Godsell, our General Manager and our Director of Environment and Planning. The event brought together 1,300 mayors, councillors, general managers, and directors from councils across the state to exchange experiences, discuss challenges, and explore opportunities for our communities. The conference highlighted the significant challenges rural councils face, including prolonged natural disaster recovery efforts and persistent funding difficulties for many rural and city councils. It was a powerful reminder of how fortunate we are in Mosman to have a strong financial position, a cohesive council, and a supportive community, all working together to maintain and enhance our wonderful local area.
As the festive season approaches, Mosman Council is hosting a variety of events to celebrate and support our community. On 29 November, join us for the annual Walk for Women, an advocacy event raising awareness for the prevention of family and domestic violence. The walk will begin at Rawson Oval at 10am and conclude at the Headland Park Artist Precinct in Georges Heights. Participants are encouraged to wear purple.
Mosman's festive season gift appeal is now open for 2024. Community members are invited to place new, unwrapped gifts under the Christmas tree in the Mosman Council Civic Centre foyer before December 6. Gifts for children and teenagers aged from 0-18 years are welcome, including toys, books, puzzles, science kits, sporting gear, beach towels, personal accessories, and toiletries. Over the past three seasons, 1,928 gifts have been placed under the tree, all distributed by The Salvation Army to disadvantaged children in the northern Sydney region.
This festive season, I strongly urge you to shop local and support our wonderful local businesses. Shopping locally not only bolsters our economy but also helps maintain the unique character that makes Mosman so special. Keep an eye out for the creative displays for the Rapt Christmas window decorating competition.
Wishing you and your families a joyful, safe, and prosperous holiday season. As we approach 2025, I am looking forward to setting my New Year's goals and working together to make it an exceptional and rewarding year for all.
