What A Year
Christmas has come early with the excellent news that Mosman has been granted a three year extension to protect our foreshore slopes and land within Mosman’s Scenic Protection Area from the Housing Code and the Low Rise Medium Density Housing Code. Our planning team have worked tirelessly to achieve this outcome and I thank them for their efforts.
Whilst this is a most welcome outcome, it remains a temporary fix and Council is currently working to strengthen our Local Environmental Plan. It is my intention to hold a community meeting early next year to inform the community of any proposed changes and listen to your suggestions and feedback.
Mosman Council’s 2017-2018 Annual Report has been tabled and delivered to the Minister for Local Government. Council has achieved excellent outcomes and continues to consolidate courtesy of a healthy operating surplus whilst delivering a vigorous capital works program. We have many projects in the pipeline, including current works to install an indoor garden reading zone in our Library.
Our wonderful Mosman Art Gallery turns 20 next month and everyone is invited to join in the party celebrations to be held at the Gallery on 8 December between 4pm and 6pm. Earlier in the day I will officially open Destination Sydney: Re-imagined which will run until 17 March 2019. Further details can be found on Council’s website.
As I and fellow Councillors prepare to present end of year Mosman Council Citizenship Awards to our well deserving young school students, I recall with absolute pleasure officially witnessing 154 Mosman residents take their pledge of commitment to become Australian Citizens at six ceremonies over the past 12 months.
As the year ends, I thank residents for your on-going support and critical involvement. I also thank my fellow Councillors, our dedicated Council staff and all our wonderful community volunteers, including our consultative committee members, for the work they have accomplished and the assistance they have offered our community.
Finally, I wish everyone a safe and happy festive and holiday season.
