From the Mayor - 27 April 2022

Posted on Wednesday 27 April 2022

Second term is underway and hopefully all students and teachers have returned to classrooms reinvigorated and rejuvenated. Council has placed on public exhibition until 15 May our refreshed vision for Mosman which includes the 2022–2032 draft MOSPLAN Community Strategic Plan, our 4 year Delivery Program and our 2022/2023 Budget and Schedule of Fees. MOSPLAN guides every action Council undertakes and this suite of documents reflects comprehensive input from the newly elected Council, as well as community feedback over the last 18 months. I encourage and strongly urge residents to review and comment.

Intense training is taking place in preparation for the 20th Humpty Dumpty Balmoral Burn, scheduled for 29 May. I will be walking up the hill, pushing my 13 month old granddaughter, Millie, who was the beneficiary of medical equipment provided by Humpty Dumpty when she needed lifesaving surgery at POW Children’s Hospital last year. I also wish all swimmers involved in the rescheduled Schools and Balmoral Team Challenge Relay for the Balmoral Swim for Cancer on 1 May a sunny day and sincerely thank the Balmoral community for being such amazing good sports in accommodating these major children’s fund raising charity events.

May delivers to our community a fantastic focus on youth art and creative expression. The 2022 Mosman Youth Art Prize, initiated in 1988 by the internationally renowned artist and local resident, Ken Done AM, will run from 14 May to 12 June and provides young artists aged 12 to 21 the opportunity to exhibit their work in a public art gallery. Another wonderful initiative, Art After School, is an 8 week program for budding artists aged 8–12 run by Mosman Art Gallery. Be quick as the start date is 4 May.

Volunteering builds better communities and with National Volunteer Week beginning on 16 May Council will again celebrate the incredible service of our volunteers with afternoon tea at Gunners Barracks. Council’s latest promotional campaign to attract new volunteers is underway and I sincerely thank residents who have already come forward to offer assistance and care for our more vulnerable residents.
