Sort It Out recycling campaign

Mosman residents are being urged to adopt a new approach to recycling to reduce waste in the recently launched Sort it Out campaign.

On average 20% of the waste placed in Mosman landfill bins is recyclable, so Council is urging residents to increase their awareness of what is and isn’t recyclable.

“Mosman residents recycle more waste than the average NSW household but there is still too much recyclable material ending up in landfill rather than being re-processed and made into new items,” Director Environment and Planning Craig Covich said.

“Our residents are highly committed to preserving the environment but there’s still room for improvement when it comes to managing waste.”

The new campaign builds on Mosman Council’s existing Green the Block suite of educational materials which were designed to make recycling simpler and clearer for residents, using colour coded signage and photos of recyclable objects.

The initiative encourages the community to think about what they can recycle across the entire house and not just the kitchen, including plastic and glass bottles, cardboard packaging and metal aerosol cans from the bathroom, laundry, home office and garage.

Council offers residents a free set of handy recycling bags to help them sort out recycling in the home and carry it to the bins.
